About Me

My name is Tim H. Swanson, I'm the Music & Programming Director at Moon Valley Bible Church. It's my job to lead teams of people to create a Sunday morning experience that connects the people in my community with God.

This is my personal blog. It's focused on helping you flesh out your potential. Through my life, a few great men have helped me discover my potential and leverage it to accomplish some of my biggest dreams. Today my mission is to help leaders and teams tap into their personal best to accomplish huge goals, specifically within the church. For that reason, I write about church leadership, mentoring, personal development, and worship. I've also had the very cool privilege of writing for XXXChurch.com, WorshipLeader.com, WorshipLinks.us, TheWorshipCommunity.com, WorshipIdeas.com, WorshipMinistry.com, and Let's Worship Magazine.

My goal is to present inspiring content that challenges you to see that you are influential, and imagine what you're capable of that you don't even know about yet. If you're involved in ministry at your church, this blog is for you.

I post to the blog three times a week. If you're interested in getting updates on posts and other content (like ebooks, resource guides, interviews, and other great stuff) you can subscribe for email updates here.

Biography
I started playing guitar at 15 when my youth pastor's wife told me it was a great way to meet girls. She was right. For years I used music to feed what would turn into a painful and consequential addiction to sex and relationships. Like a lot of church leaders, I ended up in ministry leadership while carrying on a secret life of sin. Eventually I ended up ruined. I lost it all - the job, the respect, some friends, and more.

Fortunately, I am also adopted into, what the people at my church call, God's forever family. And my Dad is about restoration. Along the way, I learned from a bunch of very powerful, inspiring, godly men. Those guys taught me a lot about integrity, leadership, and how submission to God is actually the secret to leading a powerful life.

I'm grateful that things look very differently today. Now I'm married to an amazing woman. We have three incredible kids together. And I no longer living a second secret life of sin. I've resumed a career as a professional church leader, with a recommendation form a church where I previously resigned because of my former secret life.

I've traveled and served as a worship minister in Cambodia, India, Israel, and Scotland. In 2005, I performed at Carnegie Hall with the choir from my Alma Mater, Arizona Christian University. That's the same school where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Ministry, with an instrumental emphasis in Jazz Bass Guitar.

On my spare time, I enjoy writing, boxing and mentoring a few young guys who remind me of myself.
